Laurie Main

Laurie Main was an Australian actor who became familiar to American viewers as the host and narrator of the Disney Channel children's show Welcome to Pooh Corner in the 1980s. Born in Melbourne, he moved to Britain at 16 and made his acting debut in The Yellow Balloon, later settling in the United States in 1960 and studying with Agnes Moorehead. Guest spots on series such as Wagon Train, Bewitched, Hogan's Heroes and Murder, She Wrote kept him busy on television, and he appeared in The Facts of Life Goes to Paris (1982). His stage credits included West End runs in The Diary of a Nobody and Waltz of the Toreadors plus several Broadway appearances, and he did voice work for Disney, notably as Dr. Dawson in The Great Mouse Detective (1986) and as narrator of Winnie the Pooh shorts and Read-Along recordings. He died in 2012.
