Plot summary
A group of strangers arrives at an isolated hotel in the Iranian desert, beside the ruins of Persepolis. The host, who calls himself U. N. Owen, never appears, and none of the guests knows him. A display of ten figurines stands in the dining room, and each suite holds the same nursery rhyme. A tape recording accuses every guest of causing deaths they escaped justice for. At dinner, the singer Michel Raven drops dead from his drink, and that night the housekeeper Elsa Martino is found strangled.

- The huge hotel beside Persepolis never existed: wide shots are effects shots that combine photographs of the mosque with the ruins, and the terrace of the Ali Qapu palace in Isfahan was passed off as part of Persepolis.
