Plot summary
Oliver is an American hedge fund banker who, with his friend Ricardo, buys debts that the Peruvian government owes to landowners. Ricardo is uneasy about whether the business actually helps Peruvians. In Lima, Maria works at an underfunded hospital and looks after her ailing mother, Gloria, but cannot persuade Dr. Cerrón, her superior, to admit her. In the Andes, the farmer Florentino wants his neighbors to keep their ancestral land rather than accept the developer Caravedo's offer, and he is at odds with his son Diego, who wants to be a pilot. Oliver's boss, Nathan, orders the firm out of Peru, then gives Oliver one week to close a deal with Caravedo.
