Plot summary
August 1715. Louis XIV returns from a walk and lies in his bed at Versailles with a pain in his leg. His health is deteriorating. He goes on performing his royal duties in the following days, though his sleep is troubled and a serious fever sets in. He eats almost nothing and weakens. Fagon, the king's physician, and Mareschal, the surgeon, are with him, along with his relatives. Word of his condition spreads through the Court, and his chief physician forbids him to travel further.
