Plot summary

A corpse is brought to a hospital morgue after an apparent suicide, and the patient, identified only as John Doe, wakes, walks to a ward and falls asleep. In the morning nurses find him catatonic, his body covered in scars. Edward Graham, the medical investigator, is alarmed that the body has gone missing from his morgue, and in an autopsy photograph he notices a spiral-shaped scar. Psychologist Daniel Forrester examines John Doe, decides he is a risk to himself and orders him into a seclusion room. When a nurse named Travis checks on him, John Doe attacks, and Forrester calms the patient and injects him with a sedative.
