Plot summary
In the town of Riverton, a masked serial killer known as the Riverton Ripper is said to have promised to return for the children born on the day of his disappearance. Sixteen years have passed, and those seven teenagers come together each year for a ritual in which they stab a puppet of the Ripper to hold him off. This year Bug Hellerman, a timid sixteen-year-old, is picked to strike the blow, and he fails. Bug sleeps badly, dreaming of murders he cannot be sure he is inventing, and he finds himself mimicking the talents and mannerisms of the others. Then one of the seven is found dead.
