Plot summary
A ship from Somalia docks at Mumbai, and a worker bitten during the voyage carries ashore an infection that raises the dead. In a village in Rajasthan, a man dies and figures come out of the darkness to attack the villagers. Nicholas Burton, an American turbine engineer, is working on a wind turbine when a family below flees their home. His girlfriend Ishani Sharma calls from Mumbai to say she is pregnant and frightened by what is happening on the streets. His friend Max takes the violence for fighting between communities and says Americans are being evacuated through New Delhi or Mumbai. Nicholas promises Ishani he will come for her. He meets the dead himself and, surrounded, escapes a powered paragliding institute by gliding off the roof.
