Plot summary
Rents are climbing in South Beach as young affluent couples move in, and four retired mobsters, Bobby Bartellemeo, Bats Pistella, Mouth Donato and Brick Donatelli, worry they will lose their apartment. They steal a corpse from a mortuary and stage a murder in their building's lobby, hoping new tenants will stay away. The body belongs to Luis Ventanna, the senile father of Raoul Ventanna, who heads a Colombian drug-smuggling ring, though the four men do not know it. The staged killing drives renters out, and the complex hands the men cash and a rent discount to keep them there. Bobby is meanwhile paying a private detective to find Olivia, the daughter he has not seen since she was a child.
