The Comeback Kid (1980) on Netflix

Plot summary

Bubba Newman plays baseball in the minor leagues, and he feels down and out. He leaves the game behind and looks for something else to do. That something turns out to be coaching: he takes a job with a group of underprivileged kids. Megan Barrett is the playground supervisor who handed the children over to him, though her own judgment argued against it, and she is a woman set on a career. Romance grows between the two of them. Coaching brings Bubba rewards he did not count on, and the work changes how he sees his life.
