Plot summary
Barbara Jane Bookman returns from a trip to Africa to the Florida apartment she shares with two pro football players, Billy Clyde Puckett and Marvin "Shake" Tiller, who both play for the Miami team her father, Big Ed Bookman, owns. A publisher she met on the plane, Bud McNair, wants Billy Clyde to write a book about the vices he assumes fill the sport. With the playoffs putting the club in the spotlight, Big Ed asks his daughter to stop living with the two men. Shake has taken a seminar program run by Friedrich Bismark that teaches living in the present, and he speaks in its phrases around the apartment. - During filming, actor Bert Convy got a late-night phone call from Valerie Harper, a Hollywood devotee of Werner Erhard, telling him Erhard was pleased with his parody of the est founder and wishing him success. Convy suspected she was calling to pressure him into going easy on Erhard.
- Before shooting began on the film, actor Bert Convy attended one of Werner Erhard's est training sessions to prepare for his role as B.E.A.T. seminar leader Friedrich Bismark.
- Convy recalled that at a real est seminar, an attendee who complained of a headache was told by the group leader to "experience it", and another who wet his pants was told to "experience the warmth".
