Plot summary
In a poor neighborhood of Athens, Spyros Tsardis studies dentistry and works as an employee in a coffee shop. He wants to marry Keti, his sweetheart. Next to Spyros's shop stands another coffee shop that reads fortunes in coffee grounds and has made so much money that it is preparing to move to Kolonaki. Kalliopi, a laundress in the same neighborhood, works for her living. When a customer with dirty clothes humiliates her, Spyros steps in. That gives him an idea: Kalliopi should take over the coffee shop the other one is leaving, read the cups for the affluent Athenian ladies who want to know their future, and he will bring in the clientele.
