Plot summary
Troy Johnson supplied prescription drugs to the high school students of Hillside, a southern California town, and now he is dead. His best friend Dean Stiffle finds the body and tells none of the adults, knowing they are wrapped up in their own lives. Dean's father Bill, a psychiatrist, puts him on antidepressants to even him out. At school the dealers Billy and Lee, formerly supplied by Troy, run out of stock and want the drugs left in Troy's house; their classmate Crystal Falls takes an interest in Dean.
