Plot summary
Vera Parks directs on Broadway with an intensity that has cost her another job. Out of options, she agrees to direct a Christmas pageant in a small town in upstate New York. The production she finds is basic, and she tries to back out, but some of the locals urge her to give the town a chance. The place is home to Jack Harmon, a dentist, and his young daughter Kristin. The cast is made up of townspeople rather than trained performers, and Vera begins rehearsals with them, far from the Broadway stage she knows. The town's warmth and charm begin to grow on her.
