Plot summary
A traveler arrives at a techno-organic cathedral on an alien moon during an eclipse. The building stands on the far border of the known world, on the rim of a cliff above an abyss, and tree-like pillars and branches grown from organic material form its halls. Carrying a torch, he moves through the darkness, and its light finds faces set into the pillars, still living. The faces open their eyes or shift as he passes, and colossal statues dwarf him. He is a pilgrim in search of answers, and the cathedral gives him calm instead. Where the main hall breaks off unfinished, he stops to meditate.
