Plot summary
Harry Canterville inherits Canterville Castle, an estate in a small village in England, and comes to take it up with Lucy, his new wife, and Jennifer, his daughter from an earlier marriage. His eccentric relatives refuse to enter the castle, and Mr. and Mrs. Umney predict gloom. Harry and Lucy do not believe the ghost story, thinking someone is hoaxing them with wires. Harry plans to stay three months, then sell the castle to a property developer who wants to make it a hotel. The castle is haunted by Sir Simon de Canterville, a disgraced ancestor.
