Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Ewoks: The Battle for Endor (1985)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Lucas guided the creation of the story over two four-hour sessions, and he had just watched Heidi with his daughter the weekend before; the story idea he pushed was having the little girl from the first Ewok TV movie become an orphan who ends up living with a grumpy old hermit in the woods.
  • The Ewok movies let Industrial Light & Magic hone a new technique for photographing matte paintings, latent image matte painting: a section of the camera's lens was blocked off during live action, a painting crafted to occupy that space and photographed onto the same film, so there was no generational quality loss.
  • Wilford Brimley did not get along with the Wheats, so his scenes were directed by Johnston instead; Lucas's involvement during production was primarily in the design and editing stages, and the film's working title was Ewoks II.
  • Prior to 2021, Disney announced no plans to add the Ewok films to Disney+, which prompted Eric Walker to start a petition for Disney to add them; in March 2021 it was announced that both films would begin streaming on April 2, 2021.
  • The budgets of the Ewok films were such that go motion was simply too expensive, so stop motion was used instead to realize creatures such as the condor dragon, the blurrgs and the boar-wolves.
  • At the 38th Primetime Emmy Awards, Ewoks: The Battle for Endor and the CBS documentary Dinosaur! were both juried-awarded Emmys for Outstanding Special Visual Effects.
