Plot summary
Three employees of the Eland Mining exploration company have been reported missing in the Namib Desert, in southern Africa, and the company sends out a search and rescue expedition. Dr. Zack Straker, who researches extreme survival systems, teams up with the searchers. Among the moving dunes they find human bones carrying little more than some blood, and match them to two of the men who went missing. The bones then vanish, and the group observes a strange monster that a former herdsman says the local people know as Esikhulu. It can disappear from view and survive shotgun hits, and water turns acid in its presence.
