Plot summary
A rainstorm brings a city street to life, and its ordinary fixtures, among them signs, awnings, mailboxes, drains, gutters, windows, and doors, gain faces and expressions. Rain drips from pipes, awnings whistle, and gutters gurgle as the shower continues. People pass beneath umbrellas that are almost all black, but one umbrella stands out in blue. When its owner pauses at a corner, the blue umbrella notices a red umbrella beside him. The two glance at each other nervously and quickly become smitten. Before anything can come of it, their owners head in different directions, and the two umbrellas are carried apart.
