Plot summary
Tulip is an Alsatian, a German Shepherd, who comes into a man's life when he rescues her. The two become companions, and the account follows them across fifteen years; in life the dog was called Queenie, and Tulip is the name she carries in the telling. The material comes from a 1956 memoir and keeps to the animal's own nature, describing her mating and her bowel movements in detail as a way of holding onto realism rather than turning her into a person. The animation is made for adults, and the images shift between fully rendered scenes, black and white line work and quick sketches from a notepad.
