Plot summary
Jed Clampett lives in humble circumstances in Arkansas until he accidentally finds crude oil on his land. Ozark Mountain Oil offers him a billion dollars for the property, and at a family dinner his sister, Pearl Bodine, suggests that his daughter, Elly May, could use a change of scenery. Jed, Elly May, his mother-in-law, Daisy Moses, known as Granny, and Pearl's son, Jethro, load Jethro's truck with their belongings and move to Beverly Hills, though Granny is reluctant. Milburn Drysdale, the banker who holds Jed's money, lives next door to the Clampetts' new estate and sends his secretary, Jane Hathaway, to greet them. Jane mistakes the arrivals for burglars and calls the police. Jed asks Jane to help him find someone to turn Elly May into a lady, and he also wants to marry.
