Plot summary
Six years after the death of her father, David, Emma Grossman is fifteen and living with her aunt Angela, a psychiatrist who has raised her, and Angela's husband Robert, along with their baby, Cade. Emma keeps up the appearance of an ordinary teenager through school, her friends and dance, and hides her psychopathy from everyone around her. Robert notices that his camping knife has gone missing, and at school Emma comes across a brochure for St. Crispin's and learns that Robert wants to send her there. A new student, Kat Sandburg, arrives and clashes with Emma straight away. Robert finds his knife in Emma's drawer and arranges the transfer.

- The film was set to come out on Lifetime on May 30, 2022, but on May 25, 2022 it was pushed to later that year because of the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
- Patty McCormack plays Dr. March, Emma's therapist. McCormack portrayed Rhoda Penmark, the character Emma is based on, in the original version of The Bad Seed, and her character's last name references William March, who wrote the novel the film is based on.
