Plot summary
Crunch Calhoun, a semi-reformed art thief, is caught after a smooth switch at a Warsaw museum goes wrong and serves five years in a Polish prison. Out, he earns a living as a motorcycle stunt rider in Canada, with his apprentice Francie Tobin and his lover Lola. His brother Nicky has stayed in the trade, drawing the attention of Interpol Agent Bick and the paroled informer Samuel Winter. At the home of the old crew member "Uncle" Paddy MacCarthy, the brothers meet again over a copy of the second Gutenberg Bible, held in a customs warehouse and worth 1.5 million dollars to a buyer. Guy de Cornet, a Parisian forger, is brought in to make copies that the team can sell more than once.
