Plot summary
Adam Reed flies a time jet in 2050, when the technology is still young, and takes it back to 2018 to stop the killing of his wife, Laura. The jump goes wrong: he is wounded and comes down in 2022, in the garage of his own 12-year-old self, a bullied sixth grader whose father, Louis, died the year before and who has grown distant from his mother, Ellie. The boy distrusts the stranger, and the two cannot stand each other. The older Adam still means to reach 2018, and he brings the boy with him. Maya Sorian, who holds power in Adam's own timeline, sends her enforcer Christos after them.

- Tom Cruise was attached to star when the film was announced in October 2012 as Our Name Is Adam, a spec script by T. S. Nowlin that Paramount Pictures was interested in acquiring. It sat in development hell for years until Netflix revived it in July 2020 with Shawn Levy directing and Ryan Reynolds starring.
- Walker Scobell won the role of the 12-year-old Adam, his film debut, after Levy, Reynolds, their team of producers and casting director Carmen Cuba auditioned hundreds of young actors.
