- George Sanders recalled that the New York shoot was done in 100-degree temperatures in a studio with no ventilation or air conditioning, and that his head had to be kept wrapped in ice packs. He said the stage was chosen because the woman Sidney Lumet was married to refused to go to California.
- Sidney Lumet recommended his friend the blacklisted writer Walter Bernstein to write the screenplay, and both of them warned producer Ponti that there might be problems with the House Un-American Activities Committee.
- Sidney Lumet told Peter Bogdanovich that he fought with the producers over the editing and the scoring, largely over Sophia Loren's performance. The enmity was so total, he said, that the producers went back to California and cut spitefully to prove certain scenes were unnecessary.
- That Kind of Woman was reportedly the most costly film ever shot in New York, made entirely in the city, with the shoot starting on 23 June with two weeks at Gold Medal studios in the Bronx before location work.
