Plot summary
Yang Lu Chan is born with a growth on his head, and the boys of his village mock him as The Freak. A hard blow to the growth makes him fight with enormous strength. Before his mother dies she tells him to master kung fu, and he becomes a fighter for the Divine Truth rebels against the Emperor. Their doctor warns that his power is killing him and that only Chen-style kung fu can save him. Chen Village refuses to teach an outsider. Chen Yu Niang, the grandmaster's daughter, beats him to make him give up.

- Tai Chi 0 is a fictitious account of how Chen-style tai chi, kept for generations inside the Chen family of Chenjiagou, came to be taught to the first outsider, Yang Luchan, by Chen Changxing.
- Tai Chi 0 was the first film produced by Diversion Pictures, the new company of Stephen Fung and Daniel Wu, and it marked the acting debut of wushu athlete Jayden Yuan, who plays the lead.
- Tai Chi 0 was not made alone: it was shot back-to-back with its sequel, Tai Chi Hero, so the two martial-arts features were produced in the same continuous stretch.
