Did you know?!Facts and trivia about True Legend (2010)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Only about 20 minutes of True Legend was in 3D. Yuen Woo-ping said a full 3D film is too expensive and takes too much manpower, and that up to 100 digital artists spent about six months converting the film's two most important action scenes.
  • The set built for the scene in which Su Can saves the prince broke a record as the largest set ever built inside a Chinese filming studio.
  • Yuen Woo-ping wanted Feng Xiaogang to portray the Old Sage, but Feng turned the part down over schedule conflicts. Feng instead directed a scene as a pickpocket who teaches Su Can's son to steal, and it was cut from the final film as unnecessary.
  • Producer Bill Kong recommended Vincent Zhao for the lead, and to play Beggar Su, Zhao lost up to 9 kg and took breakdancing classes for about two months because Yuen Woo-ping wanted a more rhythmic, modern form of drunken boxing.
  • After more than four months scouting locations, Yuen Woo-ping picked Huangshan, the Hukou Waterfalls and traditional Hui-style houses in Anhui, preferring to shoot in the original buildings rather than replicas in sound stages.
  • True Legend was shown in both 2D and 3D, and was promoted as the first Chinese 3D film.
