Plot summary
Terry Russell writes romance novels in Manhattan and is raising Abby, her teenage daughter, alone. With a deadline closing in and no pages to show for it, she accepts her publisher Leslie's offer to spend the summer at the Everston family villa in France, though Abby would rather stay in the city with her friend Jessica. Chef Matthew Everston, Leslie's brother, has his own trouble: critic Dominic Barone has panned his coq au vin, and the review threatens his plans to expand his restaurant. Matthew heads for the villa too, without telling Leslie. The two had already met on a blind date Leslie arranged, and it went badly. Now they share the house. Terry gets to know Jean Luc, a local chef, and Matthew gets to know Nadia, a butcher.
