Plot summary
Bob Tenor and Walt Tenor are thirty-two-year-old twins who are joined at the hip and share a liver that is mostly Bob's. Because separating them would put Walt at risk, Bob decided long ago that they would stay as they are. The brothers cook at the diner they own, where an order not ready in three minutes is free. Bob is shy and athletic; Walt is outgoing, at ease with women, and for nine years has performed one-man stage plays. Bob writes to May Fong, a pen pal in California, and has never told her about his brother or their conjoinment. Walt asks Bob, who hesitates, to leave Martha's Vineyard for Hollywood so he can chase an acting career there.

- The country song played over the closing credits, “The Fear of Being Alone”, is sung by George Schappell, credited as Reba, one of a set of conjoined twins who is mentioned in the film.
