Plot summary

Carolina Rambaldi finds little to satisfy her in her three grown children. Marcello is lazy, Lucrezia produces a television show and likes to give orders, and Cesare, a sociologist, is malicious. Carolina writes a will leaving her property to whichever of them marries and has a baby inside a year and a half. Lucrezia and Cesare are enraged, because the terms are beyond them. Marcello instead marries Marina, a dangerous killer, and she becomes pregnant quickly, but suffers a miscarriage. Marina hears of a clinic in Germany that performs embryo transplants for women who cannot conceive, and she talks her twin sister Angela into taking her place at the clinic while she travels to Germany for the operation.
