Plot summary
The Lady and the Demon meet in rural Hood River County, Oregon, and take a room at a local motel for a one-night stand. Before renting the room, the Lady lays out the risks a woman takes in such an encounter and makes him answer whether he is a serial killer. He says no, and she agrees to proceed. She asks that the two of them act out a hyper-realistic sadomasochistic roleplay, in which he poses as a murderer and she as his victim. The story is divided into six chapters, shown out of order and beginning with the third.
