Plot summary
The lunar mining base Ark is struck by a meteor shower that leaves it badly damaged. Colonel Gerard Brauchman sends Ava Cameron to fix a wing filled with carbon dioxide, and Dr. Lance Krauss warns her that the gas can bring on paranoia and hallucinations. Ava carries a meteor fragment back to the base for study, and Krauss finds spores on it. She cuts her finger on the sample and hides the cut from him. The spores spread through her quickly and she goes into labor within hours. No one believes her account of the life form that gets loose in the base; Brauchman and Krauss treat the pregnancy as a cyst.
