Plot summary
Scott is a former addict who has been in and out of rehab for eight years, and the ghost of his dead mother keeps pressing him to go back to the Louisiana family he turned his back on. Without a driver's permit, he rides in on horseback, unannounced, and meets his niece Gracie Anne and his nephew Charles. Then he meets Katherine, who is married to his brother William and was the woman he once loved; years earlier he left her at the altar. Her reaction moves from shock to open hostility, and he says his mother sent him to put things right. William is away, and Scott has pills and marijuana with him.
