Plot summary
Mary is pregnant for the first time, with twins. She gives birth to both, but only one survives; the other, Thomas, is lost during childbirth. Mary struggles with the loss and with the demands of motherhood, and she is diagnosed with severe postpartum depression. She becomes convinced that an evil entity wants to take her surviving baby. Her husband then leaves on a business trip, and Mary starts to fear for her child's life.
