Plot summary

Broadway diva Kylie Swanson is killed backstage on the opening night of The Haunting of the Opera by an assailant in the mask of the show's villain. Ten years on, her children, Camilla and Buddy, are being raised by Roger McCall, a former partner of Kylie's who runs a musical theater summer camp sliding toward bankruptcy. Learning the camp will stage a kabuki version of the same show, Camilla talks her way into the auditions and impresses Artie Getz, the stage director, who casts her as Sofia over Buddy's objections. Artie will let her play opening night only if she goes to bed with him, and he holds out Liz Silver, another camper eager for the part, as the alternative. Roger is counting on the production to draw a Broadway agent.
