Plot summary
Four years after Allen Bauer and his mermaid wife Madison settled on a deserted island hideaway, Allen misses New York and his brother Freddie. Bauer Produce, the family business, has been struggling since he left, so Madison agrees to go back with him. Freddie finds them a run-down suburban house to fix up, and Allen courts Karl Hooten, a wealthy customer who cares about family values, so the couple must look like an ordinary happy marriage. Madison hides her mermaid nature from their neighbor Mrs. Needler and befriends Fern Hooten, Karl's wife. At an aquarium event she spots Salty, a dolphin she knows, penned in a tank while his mate swims free, and asks Karl to let him go, which puts her at odds with Allen.

- Splash, Too was the first film shot at the then-new Disney-MGM Studios complex, and it was made on a production budget of $3.3 million.
- Dozens of actresses were considered for Madison before producers found Amy Yasbeck, who did a screen test for director Greg Antonacci and was cast at the start of 1988.
- Amy Yasbeck was set to wear Daryl Hannah's mermaid tail from the 1984 original but could not fit into it, so after a bodycast new form-fitted tails were made for her and stunt double Arlene Klein by Thom Shouse, the Tail Man.
- Yasbeck's zippered tail was easier to put on than Daryl Hannah's, but still took three people to zip it up and lift her into the water; she was told to swim using only the tail, never her arms, and spent an hour at a time underwater taking breaths from nearby divers' oxygen tanks.
