Plot summary
James and Mollie Ubriacco are raising Mikey and Julie, and money gets tight when Mollie is laid off from her accounting job. James starts flying private jets for Samantha D'Bonne, a cosmetics tycoon who keeps him away from home. Both children want a dog for Christmas. James brings Mikey to the pound, where a stray puppy is about to be put down, and the family adopts him as Rocks. Samantha, hearing of the wish, delivers a trained pedigree poodle named Daphne. Rocks is streetwise, Daphne is not, and the two dogs compete for the family's affection while Mollie takes a part-time job as a mall elf.
