Plot summary
Pop Dillon owns and operates the last horse-drawn streetcar line in New York City. His granddaughter Jane Dillon is in love with Harold 'Speedy' Swift, a New York Yankees fan who works at a soda shop and follows the team's games by telephone. He loses that job after he is sent to deliver flowers and someone closes a car door on them while he is distracted by a shop window display of baseball scores. W.S. Wilton, who runs a streetcar company, visits Pop's home to ask his price for the line.

- Location shooting for the Coney Island scenes in Harold Lloyd's 1928 silent comedy Speedy cost a reported $150,000, spent on one sequence of the film.
- Speedy was Harold Lloyd's last silent film before he converted to sound production; with the public apathetic toward silent films, a sound version was prepared and released in the latter half of 1928.
- New York Yankee Bob Meusel, seen batting after Babe Ruth's home run, was not filmed for the movie: his at-bat was lifted from newsreel footage.
