Plot summary
The ambulance carrying Eve's corpse loses its way, and after Portus ambushes the vehicle, Dr. Bruce Abbot escapes with the child Eve bore as she died. Agent Wasach orders an autopsy, learns of the pregnancy and has the body burned. Abbot returns to his biochemistry teaching and raises the girl, naming her Sara. One night Portus, a half-breed who has aged and is gravely ill, comes to Abbot's office, asks to see Sara and says other half-breeds share his sickness. Funding for Abbot's experimental power plant is in danger, so he offers his student Dean a portion of whatever money or prizes the work earns if Dean helps perfect the alien DNA. While Abbot is away, Sara spins a cocoon and emerges a grown woman.
