Plot summary
Henry McKenzie, a white settler in British-ruled Kenya, has raised his son Peter alongside the Kikuyu worker Kimani Wa Karanja, and the two are like brothers. When Kimani asks for a rifle on a lion hunt, Jeff Newton, married to Peter's sister, strikes him and says he cannot have the weapon and that the friendship with Peter is over. Kimani runs off and Peter finds him with a foot caught in a trap. In the black settlement, Kimani's father Karanja is arrested and jailed. Outraged by the treatment of his father, Kimani goes to a secret Mau Mau meeting, where the leader Njogu asks him to prove his fidelity. Years later, Peter leads safaris, and his betrothed, Holly Keith, comes home.
