Plot summary
Criminal psychologist Dr. Katherine Cowles and FBI Agent Joe Merriwether are working a string of elaborate murders with little to show for it. Merriwether decides to bring in a former colleague, the psychic Dr. John Clancy, who has lived in isolation since his daughter died two years earlier. Clancy can read possible futures from a touch, and at first he refuses. When Cowles touches his shoulder after handing him the case files, he sees a violent image of blood on her forehead, along with glimpses of her life. He agrees to join them. Cowles, who began as a skeptic, comes to accept his ability.

- Solace began as a planned sequel to Se7en, tentatively titled Ei8ht, with Morgan Freeman returning as Det. William Somerset, who would have developed psychic powers. The idea was dropped after Se7en director David Fincher responded negatively, and the script was rewritten as a standalone film.
- After its troubled production the film allegedly lay in a cupboard for more than a year, and the trailers issued in summer 2015 at first could not motivate any American distributor into buying the rights to it.
