Biography

Janine Turner is an American actress known for television and film roles, as well as writing, producing, and radio hosting. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, and raised in Texas, she left home at 16 to model in New York City with the Wilhelmina Modeling Agency. She began acting in Hollywood in 1980 with guest spots on Dallas and later played Laura Templeton on General Hospital, winning a Young Artist Award in 1983. After moving back to New York to study with Marcia Haufrecht of the Actors Studio, she was cast as Maggie O'Connell in Northern Exposure in 1990, earning an Emmy nomination in 1993 and three Golden Globe nominations from 1992 to 1994. Her later films include Cliffhanger (1993) with Sylvester Stallone, Leave It to Beaver (1997) as June Cleaver, Dr. T and the Women (2000) with Richard Gere, and Solace (2015). She also appeared on Friday Night Lights and wrote, produced, and directed Trip in a Summer Dress.
