Plot summary
In 1993, Trish Deveraux is at a cabin in Holly Springs, California, for a slumber party with Jackie, Kim and Diane when Russ Thorn, who kills with a power drill, attacks them. Trish survives the night. Thirty years on, her daughter Dana leaves Los Angeles with Maeve, Breanie and Ashley for a weekend away, joined by Maeve's younger sister Alix, who had stowed away in the car. Their vehicle breaks down in Jolly Springs, the town where Trish's friends died. An ad for a cabin leads the group to Kay, who keeps the general store and rents them the place, telling them to stay quiet and still.

- Rob van Vuuren originally auditioned for the mechanic Dave before being asked to read for the killer Russ Thorn. Coming from a physical theater background, he prepared by studying clips of Michael Villella, who played Thorn in the 1982 original, and an interview with him.
- Director Danishka Esterhazy, a fan of the original franchise, used establishing shots from the 1982 film and hid easter eggs, including its "goose lamp" and the guitar played by the Driller Killer in Slumber Party Massacre II.
