Plot summary
Jane and Corinne became best friends at seven and share a place in Los Angeles. Corinne is an extrovert and assists the talent agent Benita; Jane is introverted and works in the same agency's mailroom. Jane bakes, and she would rather become a professional baker than follow her parents Tasha and Isaac, both human rights lawyers, into law. She has a crush on Owen, a lawyer interning at the agency, but her shyness keeps her from speaking to him. On Corinne's birthday in March, Jane brings a homemade cake to a bar, and Corinne insists they pass it around. That gives Corinne the idea: Jane will bake a cake a week for a year, taking it to a different bar to meet people, with Corinne choosing her outfits.
