Plot summary
A news report shows a victim being carried away on a stretcher. A serial killer has murdered more than thirty people, and he is still at large in a Los Angeles suburb. The detective on the case is Lt. Don Parker; when he gets too close, the killer, Horace Pinker, a television repairman, comes to the Parker home and murders Don's wife, his foster daughter and one of his foster sons. The other foster son, Jonathan, a college football star, has a strange connection to Pinker that comes through in his dreams. Those dreams lead his father to Pinker's shop.

- Wes Craven called Shocker a "real special effects disaster": the artist doing the visual effects had a nervous breakdown, and it was only near the end of the shoot that he told them not a single effect was working, so Craven's son was set to finding the negative.
- According to Wes Craven, the film was severely cut to earn an R rating, taking around thirteen submissions to the Motion Picture Association of America to avoid an X. Scenes cut included Pinker biting off a prison guard's fingers, and no uncut version has ever been released.
- The 2004 video game The Suffering features a main antagonist, Horace P. Gauge, whose name and fate are a direct reference to Craven's film.
