Plot summary
Shatter, an American contract killer, assassinates Ansabi M'Goya, leader of Badawi, and takes a set of documents. He then goes to Hong Kong expecting payment, but assailants try to kill him and the police order him to leave within 24 hours. When German banker Hans Leber denies knowing anything about the contract and refuses to pay, Shatter flees. He is drawn into a dangerous game with the Mafia and foreign intelligence services. He meets Mei Mee, who introduces him to Tai Pah. After seeing Tai Pah's martial arts skill, Shatter hires him as a bodyguard in exchange for half the money.

- Monte Hellman was signed to direct Shatter but was fired less than two weeks into shooting, leaving co-director Michael Carreras to finish the film himself.
- Peter Cushing was making his last feature film for Hammer, and all of his scenes in Shatter were shot in just four days.
- Don Houghton wrote an action script originally titled Shoot, set to be filmed in Canada from August 1972, but Canadian producer George Brown went bankrupt and the project was shelved.
