Plot summary
Jack Foster, a widowed ex-intelligence officer who runs a Fortune 500 company, brings his eight-year-old daughter Amanda to Romania, the birthplace of the mother she lost five years earlier. At the Bucharest airport, a car bomb destroys the limousine of his father-in-law George, and Amanda disappears in the chaos. Harry, a former C.I.A. colleague Jack has not seen in years, turns up and joins the hunt. Harry says that rogue operatives smuggled an untraceable lethal virus out of the United States and made Jack their courier without telling him, and that the people holding Amanda want its formula. Jack gives Harry two hours to find her. At the embassy, Ambassador Cochran urges Jack to bring Amanda back safely.

- The project began as Shadows on the Sun, written by Bey Logan, a writer for several Jackie Chan projects, as a period piece with Seagal as an intelligence officer running a medical clinic in Japan after World War II; by September 2005 Logan was gone, Joe Halpin was writing, and it was re-titled Shadows of the Past.
