Snitz Edwards
Biography
Snitz Edwards was an Austro-Hungarian-born American character actor who worked on the stage before moving into silent films, and he remained active into the 1930s. Born Edward Neumann, he began on Broadway in the 1900 musical comedy Little Red Riding Hood and later appeared there in productions staged by Arthur Hammerstein and Charles Frohman. He also toured with companies in the United States and South America. On screen he won praise as a character actor whose expressive face suited light comedies, often playing comic foils. In 1925 he was cast as Florine Papillon in Rupert Julian's The Phantom of the Opera (1925) and appeared with Douglas Fairbanks in The Thief of Bagdad (1924). Buster Keaton selected him for Seven Chances (1925), Battling Butler (1926) and College (1927). His last role was in William A. Wellman's The Public Enemy (1931).
