Plot summary
Animated scenes set 80 million years ago follow Dolly, a female Dolichorhynchops, as she swims the Kansas Inland Sea alongside her mother, her brother and the rest of her family, past Tylosaurus, Xiphactinus, Cretoxyrhina and ammonites. Live-action sequences show paleontologists uncovering the remains of these animals. Two scientists in the Australian outback find plesiosaur bones that are almost all from juveniles. A road crew near Austin, Texas, turns up ammonite fossils in a quarry. In western Kansas in 1918, Charles Sternberg and his two sons, Levi and George, dig out a long Tylosaurus. Collectors in a North Dakota cave recover shark teeth. Quarries in the Negev Desert and the Netherlands yield mosasaur remains. A Badlands site in South Dakota holds a Tylosaurus that ate several creatures in a single meal.
