Plot summary
In November 1978, the Burger Chef restaurant in Speedway, Indiana, closes after a Friday night shift with four young friends still unaccounted for. Dan, Jayne, Ruth and Mark had been working that evening. Police begin with the idea that the work crew staged a theft, then treat the case as multiple murders after the four are found in Johnson County, more than 20 miles away. The restaurant is cleaned and reopened for business. The case goes unsolved, and mishandling of evidence at the time is one reason given. The documentary reexamines what is known and sets out the theories offered since, mixing staged scenes with interviews and archival footage.
