Plot summary
Erica Yang is a Helbrook High senior, the student body president, and a candidate for Harvard. In a video message she advises her graduating class to make the most of their remaining days. She reports for Saturday detention and keeps her ex-boyfriend Jason and the other students there, Lizzy, Russ, Vic and Brett, from learning her reason for it. The vice principal leaves them to clean the library and returns to his office. Once he is gone the students relax and smoke pot, except Brett, and they discuss a local legend: the ghost of a dead teacher is said to haunt the school and to have killed students who misbehaved.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about School Spirit (2019)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Filming took place in three locations, two high schools and a sound stage, and director Mike Gan said it was a challenge because one school still had students in class and the film had to look like it was set in a single school. The crew shot at a fast pace, about 8-9 pages a day.
- Director Mike Gan wanted to combine 1990s slasher films like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer with the ensemble casts of 1980s films like The Breakfast Club, and had every character written as if they were the hero of the movie to avoid stereotypes.
